Wife: You use a lot of gas. We’re paying like $250 a month in gas for you.
Me: Yep. Driving 90 miles a day and sipping on premium fuel will do that.
Wife: I’m only paying $40 a month in gas.
Me: Yep. Driving a hybrid 20 miles a day on regular will do that.

Dump the E46! Dump the E46! Get something a a V8 and worse gas mileage

*one week later*
So my wife made me get a hybrid.
![]() 03/24/2016 at 11:29 |

You: Thanks for driving such an efficient car, it balances out gas cost wise.
In my house my wife is the one using all the gas with the lifted Commander while I drive the Milan.

Feel your pain. 495 miles a week to and fro... :(

PS9's Wife: You use a lot of gas. We’re up to $500 a month now.
PS9: WELL THEN I GUESS I CAN QUIT MY FUCKIN JOB 40 MILES AWAY AND STAY HOME ALL DAY INSTEAD OF EARNING A LIVING THAT PUTS FOOD IN YOUR MOUTH AND CLOTHES ON ALL OUR ASSES THEN! WE’LL BE SURE TO SAVE THAT $500 ON GAS WHEN I DO THAT!!! NO PROBLEM, WE CAN JUST LIVE IN A CARDBOARD BOX AND EAT OUT OF THE McD’s DUMPSTER INSTEAD OF A TWO STORY HOUSE IN A SAFE NEIGHBORHOOD PATROLLED BY LOCAL POLICE!!
PS9's Wife:...
* one divorce later*...

Maybe you should be driving the hybrid Mr. 90 miles.
![]() 03/24/2016 at 11:33 |

Like...the Willys? the gas consumption on the Willys is comical. Driving it to work for a day would be 90 miles @ 10 miles a gallon, so 9 gallons and if premium is like $2.719 I’m shelling out aruond $25 a day to drive it. Driving the Willys to work for a month would cost me around $500. Good lawd.
![]() 03/24/2016 at 11:33 |

Or get the best of both worlds and break the piggy bank for an E46 GTR.
![]() 03/24/2016 at 11:33 |
|
Worst case I’ll start taking it and she can deal with the E46, of which she is not a fan.
![]() 03/24/2016 at 11:35 |

"A year ago, we would have been paying almost $500/month."
![]() 03/24/2016 at 11:35 |

That is a lot on gas. I drive the same per day and can get by on $25 a week. Then again, I have a Civic, not an E46.
![]() 03/24/2016 at 11:35 |

MAYBE YOU AND MY WIFE CAN START A “I’M ALWAYS RIGHT” CLUB AND JUST SIT AROUND AND YOU CAN SAY “I’M ALWAYS RIGHT” AND SHE CAN SAY “NO NO, I’M ALWAYS RIGHT” AND THEN YOU CAN SAY “INCORRECT MA’AM BECAUSE I’M ALWAYS RIGHT” AND THEN I CAN JUST BRING YOU GUYS OUT TEA AND FINGER SANDWICHES WHILE I WEEP SOFTLY.
![]() 03/24/2016 at 11:36 |

I mean, you use a lot of gas.
![]() 03/24/2016 at 11:39 |

WHY DO YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO TAKE HER SIDE!?
![]() 03/24/2016 at 11:39 |
|
I should probably be driving her car more, but I hates it.
![]() 03/24/2016 at 11:41 |
|
I’m seeing around 25mpg, a little more if I obey posted speed limits.
![]() 03/24/2016 at 11:44 |
|
Well, when we bought the Commander she had literally a 1.2 mile commute to work. A tank of gas lasted over 2 weeks haha.
You know what you need? A Cadillac ELR
I’ve never recommended that to someone before, but it would suit you.
![]() 03/24/2016 at 11:47 |
|
I drive about 43 miles a day on premium so yeah, I know the feeling.
![]() 03/24/2016 at 11:47 |

Barf. Gimmi an i8 and her a Challenger SRT8.
![]() 03/24/2016 at 11:52 |

CAN MY WIFE JOIN TOO BECAUSE SHE WOULD FIT IN PERFECTLY WITH THIS GROUP.
![]() 03/24/2016 at 11:53 |

FUCK.
![]() 03/24/2016 at 11:59 |

My wife and I had that discussion once. It came to an abrupt end when I pointed out that she was driving twice as many miles in vehicle twice as big as mine. I think the key phrase was “How about we get you a Prius?”
![]() 03/24/2016 at 12:03 |
|
I’d take the ELR over the i8
2 reasons
1. Anything that is named with i at the beginning is bullshit
2. I don’t like BMW’s
![]() 03/24/2016 at 12:03 |
|
That sounds lovely! I take my tea without sugar or milk.
![]() 03/24/2016 at 12:04 |

So instead of a carbon-chassis mid-engine pseudo-supercar, you would prefer a FWD tarted-up Volt? Blech.
![]() 03/24/2016 at 12:08 |
|
That really isn't bad mileage. The thing that's killing you is the damn premium fuel. And speaking of, why is it that premium is way out of line with the rest of the grades of fuel? It used to be roughly ten cents difference between the grades. Now it's like 15 cents more for mid grade and 40 cents more for premium.
![]() 03/24/2016 at 12:09 |
|
that’s a good question, considering your regular and mid-grade are just diluted premium anyway.
![]() 03/24/2016 at 12:21 |
|
I drive 5-10 miles per day. I only fill up every 4 weeks despite getting 20mpg.
![]() 03/24/2016 at 12:29 |
|
Why don't we just go Model S and Challenger Hellcat (because why not?) and call it a day.
![]() 03/24/2016 at 12:33 |
|
Wifey won’t be happy when gas prices are $3+ nation wide on premium.
![]() 03/24/2016 at 12:36 |

You tried to use logic, that’s the problem with your argument. Can’t remember who said it but
“Men are handicapped when arguing with women because men have a need to make sense. Women go for distance and irritation."
![]() 03/24/2016 at 12:36 |
|
She will be happier when I get a job closer to home.
![]() 03/24/2016 at 12:37 |
|
Because range anxiety and dealer markups.
![]() 03/24/2016 at 12:38 |
|
Yup, noticed. Not sure when it got out of whack. I try to close my eyes while filling up all 19 gallons.
![]() 03/24/2016 at 12:42 |
|
Alternate cars every other week.?
Or just start inquiring about how much her shoe collection cost.
![]() 03/24/2016 at 12:43 |
|
I am not ready to welcome my new hybrid overlord.
![]() 03/24/2016 at 12:51 |
|
From my experience it’s about 240 miles in the winter and 260 in the summer per ($7) charge. As to the Hellcat, just negotiate better, I've had a few friend close at MSRP.
![]() 03/24/2016 at 13:18 |
|
Well I’d like the Model S over the ELR but I have range anxiety and I can’t justify spending an obscene amount of money on a car that can’t be driven wherever I want as far as I want.
ELR is the best option.
i8 could be a full on supercar, not interested.

Bolt or new Volt?
![]() 03/24/2016 at 13:49 |
|
Definitely, DEFINITELY the Volt.
In my opinion it’s the smartest solution to electric cars.
Typically drive around on charge, but if you need to drive more than 50 miles, go ahead and use some gas.
If I owned one I could drive round trip to work on 1 charge and still be able to drive it to my in laws using gas.
Bolt is EV only so it’s out.
![]() 03/24/2016 at 13:53 |
|
Worth it
![]() 03/24/2016 at 14:11 |
|
On a separate note, I think it’s ridiculous that car manufacturers get all the brunt of the pain of being required to produce fuel efficient cars.
It’s also got to be the consumers’ responsibility to control how much pollution they contribute to the atmosphere. There's gotta be stronger incentives to drive less, which in turn produces less pollution and gas consumption, regardless of what the mpg figure is.
![]() 03/24/2016 at 16:17 |
|
I’m more of a fan of going after container ships that run on the dirtiest fuel they can find. A few years back, there were a number of articles about how the 16 biggest ships produced as much pollution as all the cars on the planet. This is compounded by the fact there are approximately 5,000 container ships operating currently.

‘11 Insight.
![]() 03/25/2016 at 09:47 |

May I recommend:
If I were to drive as much as you (90 miles per day, 5 days a week or 3000 miles per month), I’d be spending 760$ a month in gas :) (Though if I were to pay 2.5$ per gallon, I’d only pay 510$ a month lol)
Now, she’d have a reason to complain!!!
![]() 03/25/2016 at 11:11 |
|
dont.
get a motorcycle. much better on fuel :P
AND she cant complain, because she told you to get something more fuel efficent. So you did!
![]() 03/25/2016 at 11:14 |
|
A motorcycle would cost me more money, considering I’d go through lots of chain and oil services and probably 3-4 sets of tires in a year. Plus anything I get is going to be about as good on gas as her car. I do miss my bike, but she’d kill me if I got one and she didn’t.
![]() 03/25/2016 at 11:17 |
|
“ I do miss my bike, but she’d kill me if I got one and she didn’t.”
my friend.....you found a good one. Dont let her go
![]() 03/25/2016 at 11:18 |

But at the same time she hates the new Jeep Renegade and likes the new Jeep Cherokee. So there is that.
